Campaign's Aim
10 Water Fountains Spread between the Academic, Athletic and Restaurant Areas
Filter Replacement for 5 years
Reusable Water Bottles Sold in the Campus Store
An Initiative by Students, for the Students
“As a student who has lived in more environmentally-conscious communities for many years, coming to Morocco was kind of a cultural shock. We do not recycle, leave our trash in landfills, and waste water like we do not know its value. Fortunately, Morocco has been making big strides in the environmental field, for example with the “zero mika” initiative and the multiplication of the use of renewable energies. As an active student at Al Akhawayn University, I wish for it to be a pioneer in environmentally-conscious initiatives. The Green Campus fountains initiative is the perfect student-led pilot project for AUI to show Morocco and the world that it is trying to make the campus a better, greener environment for students, faculty, and staff.”
Hello! If you have just stumbled upon this website randomly, we are a group of young people from Al Akhawayn University who are trying to raise money for the purchase and installation of water fountains on our campus. If you are interested, you can donate here.
What’s wrong with the water that I drink?
The aim of this project is to help save on plastic consumption on our campus. According to a survey we conducted, more than 60 kgs of plastic waste from water bottles is produced weekly by our students. If we install water fountains, students will have an incentive to stop buying so many disposable bottles.
What does a water fountain do?
The water fountains we would like to purchase filter the water to get rid of contaminants like lead, chlorine, and odors. They also provide sanitary hydration, since they do not require you to touch them to fill up your water bottle.
Who is in charge of this project
This project was launched by the board of the Green House Club and could not have been possible without the help of the Presidential Intern cohorts of 2019 and 2020, as well as SGA senators and the club’s wonderful advisor, Dr. El Hajjaji.
Are you planning on raising 150k from students only?
No, the goal is to raise money from students, faculty, staff, alumni, and departments within AUI. We truly believe that installing water fountains will be beneficial to everyone, so we count on everyone’s contribution to help us achieve our goals!
